CEUSTERS and Carter Jonas advise Sappi on the strategic sale of its Lanaken mill

CEUSTERS and Carter Jonas advised Sappi on the sale of the shares in Sappi Lanaken NV, including the land, industrial buildings, infrastructure and equipment of its former paper mill in Lanaken, Belgium, to UTB Waalwijk B.V.

The transaction represented a total value of €50 million. The property comprises approximately 32 hectares of industrial land and around 120,000 sq m of office and industrial buildings. Part of the site benefits from direct access to the Albert Canal. Its existing infrastructure includes an advanced water-treatment facility and extensive power infrastructure.

The disposal followed the closure of the Lanaken mill at the end of December 2023 and formed part of Sappi’s programme to realign its European graphic-paper production capacity.
